What SaneBox does

SaneBox connects to an email account you already have and sorts incoming mail by likely importance before you read it. Anything it judges unimportant is moved out of the Inbox into a folder called SaneLater, so the Inbox holds the mail that probably needs an answer. There is nothing to install and no new email app to learn — the folders simply appear in Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail or whatever client you already open, on desktop and phone alike.

The sorting is corrected by dragging. Move a message from SaneLater back to the Inbox and that sender is treated as important from then on; move one the other way and the reverse happens. Around that main split sit further folders you can turn on: SaneNews for newsletters, SaneBlackHole for senders you never want to hear from again, SaneNotSpam for legitimate mail your provider keeps burying, and DIY Folders for sorting you define yourself.

SaneBox also watches the mail you send. SaneNoReplies gathers messages nobody answered, and reminders can surface a specific email again if no reply arrives by a date you set. A daily digest lists the unimportant mail you have not opened, so filtered messages are set aside rather than lost. Connection is by OAuth with the major providers, and the vendor states it reads sender, subject and date rather than storing full messages or attachments.

Key capabilities

Importance sorting into SaneLater

Incoming mail judged unimportant is moved out of the Inbox into a SaneLater folder before you see it. The Inbox is left holding what is likely to need a reply, and the rest is still there when you want it.

Training by drag-and-drop

You correct the sorting by moving a message between folders — there is no rules language to write. The correction applies to that sender from then on.

Permanent unsubscribe with SaneBlackHole

Dragging a message into SaneBlackHole keeps everything from that sender out of your inbox for good, without hunting for an unsubscribe link or filling in a preferences form.

Follow-up net for sent mail

SaneNoReplies collects messages you sent that nobody answered, and a reminder can bring a specific email back if no reply arrives by a date you choose.

Daily Digest of what was filtered

Once a day SaneBox lists the unimportant mail you have not opened. It is the check that stops filtering from turning into silent loss.

Works with the mail setup you have

Gmail, Microsoft 365, Apple iCloud, Yahoo Mail and Fastmail are supported, as is any IMAP, Microsoft Exchange or ActiveSync account. There is no client to switch to and nothing to download.

Best for

  • High-volume inboxes that are mostly noise, where the problem is triage rather than writing.
  • People who have tried native rules and filters and found the upkeep worse than the mess.
  • Owners and executives who need a reliable net under mail they sent and never got an answer to.
  • Anyone tied to an existing provider — support spans Gmail, Outlook, iCloud, Yahoo, Fastmail and plain IMAP or Exchange, so you do not have to move mail hosts to try it.
  • Individuals and very small teams: plans are per person and top out at four connected accounts.

Worth knowing

  • It triages; it does not write email for you. There is no drafting or thread-summarising here, so if that is what you are shopping for, this is the wrong category of solution.
  • Connecting it means granting broad mailbox access — SaneBox asks to read, send and delete mail and to see your contacts. The vendor states it keeps only sender, subject and date and that access is revocable, but the grant itself is wide, and it is worth checking first if your organisation restricts OAuth scopes.
  • The sorting needs a training period. The first days include misfiles you fix by hand, so judge it after a fortnight rather than an afternoon.
  • Features are tiered rather than uniform: the cheapest plan carries the core sorting and the permanent-unsubscribe folder only, while newsletter separation, custom folders and the sent-mail solutions sit on higher plans, and snooze sits on the top one.
  • Plans are priced per person and cap at four connected accounts, so this is not a way to triage a busy shared or team inbox.

How SaneBox compares

Email AI solutions split between triaging the inbox you already have and replacing how you read and write email. SaneBox is pure triage: it sorts mail inside your existing account and client, and writes nothing.

vs Superhuman

Superhuman is a separate email client for Gmail users, with AI drafting, thread summaries and priority triage, from $33 per user a month on annual billing (Business, which includes Mail). SaneBox only sorts and does not draft, but it works inside the mail app you already use — across Gmail, Outlook, iCloud and any IMAP account — from $9.49 a month. Choose Superhuman to change how you work email; SaneBox to clear the noise without switching.

vs Lindy

Lindy is an AI executive assistant that labels and drafts email, schedules meetings, takes notes and texts you about anything urgent, from $29.99 a month. SaneBox does one narrower job — moving unimportant mail out of the inbox — at a fraction of the price. Choose by how much you want delegated.

vs Built-in inbox rules and filters

Gmail and Outlook already let you write rules that file mail by sender or keyword, at no extra cost, and they work well for a handful of predictable senders. SaneBox suits people who found keeping those rules current harder than the mess itself, since you train it by dragging messages instead.
