Trump Super Intelligence Force

The White House created a Super Intelligence Force this week, led by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton as the new AI czar. The roster includes the FTC chair, a Pentagon research and engineering undersecretary, and the head of federal personnel policy. It has 120 days to determine how much responsibility the federal government should take for AI development.

Look at who is in the room. Not a technologist. Not a dedicated AI agency. An intelligence chief, a competition regulator, a defense R&D official, and an HR policy lead. That combination tells you more about Washington's read on AI risk than any speech would: this is being treated as a national security and workforce question first, a product safety question second.

It also lands one day before OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and Meta executives told the NYC Council they would not guarantee their AI agents always follow safety guardrails. The federal response so far is coordination and a deadline, not binding rules. Set that next to the EU's enforcement-first posture and you get a real divergence in how governments plan to handle frontier AI over the next year.

120 days is a short runway for a mandate this broad. Worth watching: does the Force produce an actual accountability structure, or another framework document.

What would you want this task force to prioritize in its first 120 days?
