Geneva AI Security Conference

This week the AI headlines were funding rounds and model launches. The conversation that will outlast all of them is happening in Geneva.

Today and tomorrow, the UN Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) is hosting its Global Conference on AI, Security and Ethics at the Palais des Nations. Diplomats, policymakers, industry, and research labs are in the same room working on one question: what happens to international peace and security as AI gets more capable and more autonomous.

The agenda is telling. Dual-use technology. Agentic AI. Algorithmic bias across sectors. And it runs back-to-back with the UN's informal exchanges on AI in the military domain under resolution 80/58.

Here is the part most companies miss. Governance is becoming infrastructure. The norms drafted in venues like this one become tomorrow's export controls, procurement requirements, and compliance obligations. The organizations that treat AI governance as a legal afterthought will spend the next decade reacting to rules they had no hand in shaping.

The model race gets the attention. The rule-setting decides who gets to compete.

How closely is your organization tracking international AI governance, or is it still someone else's problem?
