What Tebra does
Tebra combines clinical charting, insurance billing, patient scheduling, and payment collection into a single cloud-based platform. Rather than running separate solutions for each function, staff and providers work from one login, with data shared across all modules. It is designed specifically for independent practices, not hospital systems or large networks.
On the clinical side, Tebra includes an EHR with e-prescribing, electronic labs, telehealth, and an optional AI Note Generation module that listens during visits and drafts clinical notes automatically. The AI charting feature is priced separately and has a usage-based or flat-fee structure depending on volume. The platform also covers insurance eligibility checks, claims submission, denial management, and patient payment collection.
Beyond day-to-day operations, Tebra includes solutions for patient-facing functions such as online scheduling, digital intake forms, two-way HIPAA-compliant messaging, and automated appointment reminders. There are also practice marketing features, including website management, directory listings, and AI-assisted responses to patient reviews. Implementation is estimated at two to four weeks and includes onboarding support for data migration and staff training.
Key capabilities
AI-assisted clinical documentation
The optional AI Note Assist module generates clinical notes during or after patient visits, reducing time spent on charting. It is sold as an add-on, priced as part of your quote.
Integrated billing and claims
Tebra handles real-time insurance eligibility checks, claims submission, and denial management from within the same platform used for charting. Patient payments, including card-on-file and online pay, are also built in.
Patient scheduling and communication
Practices can offer online scheduling, digital intake, and automated appointment reminders without a separate solution. Two-way messaging between staff and patients is HIPAA-compliant and connected to the patient record.
Practice marketing and reputation solutions
Tebra includes custom website management, directory profile updates, and AI-generated replies to patient reviews. These are designed to help independent practices manage their online presence from one place.
Robotic process automation for admin tasks
The platform lists robotic process automation (RPA) as a feature for reducing repetitive administrative work, such as automating patient billing workflows.
Specialty-specific templates and workflows
Tebra supports a range of specialties including primary care, mental health, pediatrics, and others, with templates and coding support tailored to each.
Best for
- Independent medical practices that currently use separate solutions for EHR, billing, and scheduling and want to consolidate them
- Small practices where providers spend significant time on after-visit documentation and want to explore ambient AI charting
- Practices managing their own insurance billing in-house, including eligibility checks and denial follow-up
- Specialties such as primary care, mental health, pediatrics, and nurse practitioner practices that need configurable templates
- Practices that want to actively manage patient reviews and online visibility alongside their clinical operations
Worth knowing
- Pricing requires a custom quote for the core platform, with AI Note Generation as a separate add-on; costs can increase meaningfully as providers or note volume grows
- Implementation is estimated at two to four weeks, which requires staff time for data migration, configuration, and training — plan for some workflow disruption during the transition
- The AI charting module is priced and activated separately; practices that want it need to budget and evaluate it independently from the base platform
- The platform is purpose-built for independent practices; larger multi-site groups or health systems may find it is not scoped for their needs
- Mantra does not sell or receive fees from Tebra — if your priority is purely standalone billing software or a lightweight EHR, there may be more focused solutions worth comparing first
