Delivery Hero Herogen

130 senior engineers. That's the annual coding output Delivery Hero's new AI agent, Herogen, is already delivering — and only 18% of their developers are using it.

They unveiled it publicly today, and the numbers deserve a closer look.

Herogen doesn't just write code. It receives tasks in natural language, writes, tests, and iterates autonomously, then submits pull requests for human review. A "council of agents" — multiple LLMs cross-checking each other's blind spots — reviews the work before any human sees it. The result: an 85% pull request acceptance rate and 100+ merges per day.

That has freed an estimated 250,000 hours of manual engineering in a single year.

Here's what I think most companies are missing in this story: Herogen isn't replacing engineers. It's changing what engineers are responsible for. The human role shifted from writing code to reviewing proposals and setting direction. That's a fundamentally different job description — and most organizations aren't prepared for that transition.

At 9% of all code change requests company-wide, with a target of 20% by year end, this is no longer a pilot. It's infrastructure.

The question for every engineering leader isn't "should we explore this?" It's "how far behind are we?"
