What Ramp does

Ramp combines corporate cards, expense management, accounts payable, travel, and procurement into one platform. Instead of employees filing expense reports manually, receipts are captured automatically at the point of purchase, coded to the right GL account by AI, and reviewed against company policy without anyone touching them. Transactions that fall within policy move through without interruption; exceptions get flagged for a human to review.

On the accounts payable side, invoices are scanned on upload, matched against purchase orders and receipts, routed for approval, and paid — via ACH, card, check, or wire. The platform connects natively to QuickBooks Online, Xero, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Workday, and Oracle, so coded transactions sync to your books automatically rather than landing as a batch of manual journal entries at month-end.

Ramp also monitors spend in real time, surfacing things like duplicate subscriptions or unused licenses. Card controls can be set by vendor, category, and amount, which means out-of-policy spend is blocked before it happens rather than caught in a reconciliation weeks later. All AI-driven decisions are logged and auditable, and the system does not move money without human confirmation.

Key capabilities

Automatic expense coding

AI fills in GL codes, memos, and categories at the moment of purchase. Receipts can be submitted via SMS or Slack, and the Policy Agent reviews every expense automatically, only escalating genuine exceptions.

Accounts payable automation

Invoices are extracted by OCR on upload, matched to POs and receipts, routed for approval, and scheduled for payment. Discrepancies block payment until resolved.

Real-time spend controls

Card limits can be set by vendor, category, or dollar amount, preventing out-of-policy purchases before they occur rather than after the fact.

ERP sync and accounting automation

Transactions are auto-coded and pushed to connected accounting systems — QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Workday, or Oracle — eliminating manual journal entries.

Anomaly and savings detection

Ramp Intelligence reviews spend continuously, flagging duplicate subscriptions, overspend, and other anomalies for the finance team to act on.

Travel policy enforcement

Policy rules are applied at booking time, not after. Hotel rates are monitored and automatically rebooked if the price drops by $50 or more.

Best for

  • Finance teams spending meaningful time each month on expense coding, reconciliation, or chasing receipts
  • Companies using separate tools for corporate cards, expenses, AP, and travel who want to consolidate onto one platform
  • Businesses that need corporate cards without requiring personal credit checks or personal guarantees from employees
  • Teams that already use QuickBooks, Xero, or NetSuite and want spend data to sync automatically rather than via manual entry
  • Organizations at any size — the free tier covers cards, expense management, and basic AP, making it accessible to smaller businesses as well

Worth knowing

  • The Plus plan adds a per-user monthly fee on top of a platform fee; costs can grow as headcount scales, so model out the total before committing.
  • NetSuite and Sage Intacct integrations are only available on the paid Plus plan — teams that need those connections cannot stay on the free tier.
  • Workday and Oracle integrations require the Enterprise plan at custom pricing, which may not suit smaller organizations.
  • Ramp is a spend management platform, not a full accounting or ERP system — it works alongside your existing books rather than replacing them, so you still need a core accounting tool.
  • If your spend volume is very low or your expense process is already simple, the automation benefits may not justify the setup effort, even if implementation is quoted at one to three weeks.
