Watch: how Deel works
What Deel does
Deel is a global HR and payroll platform that handles the administrative and compliance work involved in employing or contracting people across borders. It covers the full employment lifecycle: generating compliant contracts, running payroll in local currencies, managing benefits, and handling visa and mobility needs — all from one system.
For companies that want to hire internationally but don't have a local legal entity in every country, Deel offers an Employer of Record service where it employs workers on your behalf and assumes the compliance obligations. For companies that already have legal entities abroad, Deel provides local and global payroll processing. Contractors can also be managed and paid through the platform.
AI is embedded into Deel's workflows to help approve hiring, payroll, and IT flows without adding headcount. The platform connects to accounting and HR tools including QuickBooks, NetSuite, Xero, BambooHR, and Slack, so payroll data doesn't have to be moved manually between systems.
Key capabilities
Global payroll processing
Run payroll across multiple countries with support for 150+ currencies, including crypto, through a single platform with configurable pay rules and approval flows.
Employer of Record (EOR)
Hire full-time employees in countries where you have no legal entity; Deel employs them on your behalf and handles local compliance obligations.
Contractor management
Onboard, contract, and pay international contractors with locally compliant agreements and same-platform payment processing.
AI-assisted compliance
Deel combines in-house compliance logic, real-time AI, and a network of local experts to flag and manage regulatory requirements as they apply to your workforce.
HR and people management
Manage the broader employee record — benefits enrollment, deductions, and workforce data — in one system alongside payroll.
Visa and mobility support
Deel handles visa applications and employee relocation end to end, managed in-house rather than outsourced to a third party.
Best for
- Companies hiring or paying workers in multiple countries who need compliant contracts and payroll without setting up local entities in each location
- Businesses with a mix of full-time international employees and contractors that want to manage both in one place
- Remote-first teams where HR and finance need payroll data to flow automatically into tools like QuickBooks, Xero, or NetSuite
- Organisations scaling internationally that want compliance handled by the platform rather than building an in-house legal team for each market
- Companies that currently wire international payments manually and want to consolidate that process into a structured, auditable system
Worth knowing
- Cost can add up quickly: EOR service starts at $599 per employee per month, which is a significant line item if you have several full-time international hires — model your headcount before committing
- Contractor management is priced per contractor per month ($49), so businesses with a large, fluctuating contractor pool should project costs carefully as the roster changes
- Implementation is estimated at two to four weeks, which is relatively light, but you'll still need someone internally to configure pay rules, approval flows, and country-level settings during setup
- If all your workers are in a single country where you already run payroll through a local provider, the breadth of Deel's global infrastructure may be more than you need and a simpler domestic tool could be a better fit
- Because Deel is an all-in-one platform, teams with deeply customised existing HR systems should verify that the available integrations cover their specific workflows before migrating
How Deel compares
Deel is built for employing and paying people across borders. The comparison that matters is where your people are: mostly abroad, mostly in the US, or spread across a company that also wants HR, IT and finance on one platform.
vs Rippling
Rippling puts HR, payroll, IT and finance on one platform — including global payroll, device provisioning and corporate cards — on a custom quote with a four-to-eight-week implementation. Deel concentrates on hiring and paying people across borders, with an Employer of Record service and published per-person prices. Choose Rippling to consolidate internal systems; Deel when having no local entity is the problem.
vs Gusto
Gusto is self-serve US payroll, benefits and HR, from $49 a month plus $6 per person. International employees are reachable only through an employer-of-record partner or a contractor add-on, at extra cost. If nearly everyone is in the US, Gusto is simpler and cheaper; once you are hiring abroad without an entity, Deel is built for it.
vs Justworks
Justworks is a US PEO bundling payroll, compliance, workers' comp and large-group benefits, from $79 per employee a month on PEO Basic. Deel's US PEO starts at $125 per employee, but its strength is international hiring and contractors. For a US-only team that wants a PEO, compare Justworks first; for a mixed US and international team, Deel covers both.
